I spend my days totally engrossed in fine detail.

I make each piece of jewellery by hand using few machines and basic tools. My work includes many styles, all unique durable designs of exceptional quality, both for trade and to commission. I have been knitting, crocheting and weaving precious metals for years and a distinctive use of pure silver wire and pearls ensures my average working focal length is kept at 6''.

It is thus not surprising that the wide horizons of SW Scotland are an essential balance to my life. In contrast to the pearl ranges, which lend themselves perfectly for weddings, I make intricate, constructed jewellery for everyday wear, in silver and coloured golds; work which includes deceptively simple ideas that illustrate the jeweller's art.

This long established jewellery makers, based in the fishing village of Carradale in south Argyll, was founded by Mike Hurst, who still rules the roost with a rod of iron (on a good day).

They produce an extensive range of essentially Scottish jewellery , with an emphasis on Celtic rings and very unusual kilt pins.

The jewel in their crown is their space age casting equipment which gives them huge versatility - and is available to other casters through their trade casting facility.

At the end of an 18 mile single track road, they have a surprising shop, within the workshop. Which is good.
